CEO Update 05.06.2026
CareSTL Health has been a trusted anchor in North St. Louis for generations. I speak not only as CEO, but as someone raised here, as a former patient, and as a family member who still depends on this health center. My more than 40 years in community health—from registration clerk to CFO to CEO—have shown me both the power of this work and the pressures that threaten it.
The recent 30-day disruption in our operations came at a time when our community was already recovering from a devastating tornado. The closure interrupted care for vulnerable patients and placed a heavy burden on our staff—professionals who continued to serve, support, and advocate for patients despite uncertainty. I am deeply grateful for their resilience and unwavering commitment.
This moment also reflects broader challenges facing federally qualified health centers nationwide. Chronic funding instability, delayed reimbursements, and increasing regulatory requirements strain the very systems designed to protect access. These pressures do not diminish our mission, but they make it harder for safety-net providers to remain stable, responsive, and fully resourced.
Continuity of care cannot be replaced or transferred overnight. Patients managing chronic conditions, prenatal care, behavioral health needs, or pediatric care rely on established relationships and coordinated treatment plans. When a major access point like CareSTL Health pauses—even briefly—the impact is felt across the entire community and throughout an already overextended healthcare system.
As we reopen our doors, I am profoundly grateful. Seeing our patients walk through the door again is a blessing. I am honored to care for them, and every day that follows. I am equally grateful for the staff who held this mission together and for the community partners who stepped in where they could. Reopening is not something I take for granted.
There is work ahead—restoring stability, strengthening operations, and rebuilding trust. But our commitment remains unchanged: to provide reliable, compassionate, community-centered care to every patient who walks through our doors.
CareSTL Health is more than a health center. It is part of my story, part of this community’s story, and part of the promise we make every day: to show up, to care, and to remain rooted in the community we serve.
