At CareSTL Health our goal is to improve the health outcomes of those we serve and we appreciate your interest in volunteering with us. We have a variety of volunteer and internship opportunities available for you to be a part of a mutually rewarding volunteer program, give back to your community, and learn alongside medical professionals. Information about each volunteer and internship opportunity are below along with instructions for how to apply.

Behavioral Health Internship

 At CareSTLHealth, we believe behavioral health is a primary key to living a healthy, balanced life though Integrated Care. 

Behavioral Health internships are available for those studying Psychiatry, Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Professional Counseling, and Community Health Work. The behavioral health specialists at CareSTL Health are trained to help patients move forward in life.

Dental Services Internship

We have internships in our dental services department to help produce the healthiest and brightest smiles!

Our team services patients in house, mobile units and school based. Services include routine teeth cleaning, dental exams, fluoride varnishes, sealants, x-rays, oral surgery and simple extractions (exceptions apply), limited root canals, crowns, bridges, and dentures.

Our dental team advocates for pediatric mouth and teeth care.

Volunteer Position Descriptions

Nursing Unit

Description: Volunteers in our nursing units help us improve the quality of patient care by supporting the nursing staff in their day-to-day operations and assisting patients and families throughout the unit. Volunteer tasks may include: interacting with patients, assisting in discharges, answering calls, restocking supplies, assisting nursing staff with errands, and other tasks as assigned to help the unit run smoothly and allow staff to focus more time on patient care. 

Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors 

Patient Access

Registration

Description: Volunteers assigned to this area will work with the patient through the registration process such as scheduling appointments, escorting patients to service area, answering calls, and monitor activities in waiting areas

Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors 

GREETERS

Description: Volunteers will greet, guide, and offer assistance to patients, visitors, and staff on nursing units and throughout the health center. Volunteers may assist discharging patients, utilizing wheelchair, escort assistance, and patient areas.

Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors. The volunteer also needs to be able to navigate around the health center and offer direction.

WAITING AREA

Description: Volunteers provide information & support to members while receiving services. Volunteers maintain a list of family members in order to facilitate staff and physicians finding family members 

Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors. 

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS

Description: Volunteers will assist administrative departments in paperwork, filing, organization, errands, and other clerical duties as needs. The volunteer can be placed in administration, finance, medical staff office, or other clerical areas throughout the hospital

Locations: Administration, Finance, Medical Staff, HIM, Patient Safety, Billing,

and other administrative areas

Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors. The volunteer also needs strong organizational skills.

Support

Plants Operations

Descriptions: Volunteers assigned to this area provide supplemental support to the department staff and will work on a variety of projects to enhance the department. The volunteer will also assist in organizing work orders, maintenance repairs, and other administrative duties.

Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors. The volunteer also needs strong organizational skills. 

LAB

Description: Volunteers assigned to this area provide supplemental support to the Lab Staff. In this position volunteer tasks consisted of receiving blood samples, urine samples, and other bodily fluid samples and passing them onto employees in the lab in order to identify the sample and test it. Other tasks that volunteers assist with include stocking lab equipment, preparing nurse draw bags, and transporting items around the health center. 

Qualifications:

Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors. Volunteers also need to be detail oriented, proactive, and have the ability to identify what needs to be done.

MATERIALS

Description: Volunteers assigned to this area provide supplemental support to the materials department. In this position volunteer tasks consisted of organizing inventory, delivering mail, checking stocking levels, and administrative task for the department. 

Qualification: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors. Volunteers also need to be detail oriented, proactive, and have the ability to identify what needs to be done. 

I.T

Description: Volunteers assigned to this area provide supplemental support to the I.T department. In this position volunteer tasks consist of organizing inventory and assisting employees in scheduling computer/phone updates.

Qualifications: Volunteers should be self-motivated, engaged, friendly, and comfortable talking to patients/visitors. The volunteer should also have competency with computers.
